What does it say about a guy who tries to make his girlfriend jealous of other girls? Why would he do that?

Like, he might ask if she's jealous if some girls were hitting on him or such stuff. Why would he do that? What does it mean if he tries to make her jealous or see if she is jealous if some girls hit on him?
