Since the letters "pre" mean "before," then you can accurately say that a prefix comes before something else. It can be letters that come before another word (as in "un"-happy. ) Or it can be numbers that come before other numbers, such as a telephone prefix.

I mean if there’s a song that I think will sound really good if we record it through a boom box or a tape player or a laptop mic, or just anything that won’t sound traditionally high-quality, I think it can actually enhance music in some situations.
