Reading comprehension is the ability to remember and understand what you have read. Many people with dyslexia or other learning impairments have difficulty with reading comprehension.
Reading comprehension is being able to understand the things that you read. For example, I can define readingcomprehension, but if you do not understand how I've explained what it is, then you have not comprehended what you are reading. There is so much more to reading than just having the words skim past your eyes and never sink into the processes in your brain.
If this happens then you can swear you've read the material but you cannot seem to recall the contents of the pages. This means that you were unable to comprehend what you read, and were not applying or practicing reading comprehension. Children who are not taught the story behind the words are not as capable of reading comprehension as those children who had stories read to them with expressive voice and exclamations.
A parent who reads to their small child can help them with comprehension by bringing the books to life. This will get the child interested in furthering their own reading skills, and with the reading they will be acquiring personal comprehension as well.
