What does 'Thawing' mean in the context of food?

It means to "unfreeze" the item. Also can use the microwave on defrost to thaw an item.

When you "thaw" food, you allow it to defrost. If it was in your freezer or you bought it frozen at the store, taking it out and placing it in some kind of warmer environment (room temperature or refrigerator even) you are allowing it to lower its temperature and therefore it thaws.

Thawing is defrosting something which has come out of a freezer.
