My family traditions When I was young my mother would fill our Easter baskets with all sorts of candy and small toys. She would also hide colored hard boiled eggs around the living room for my brother and I to find. After breakfast we would make the half hour ride to my grandmother’s house where all my aunts, uncles and cousins would meet.
Once everyone had arrived my grandmother would send all the kids outside to find the eggs that the bunny had left. These were hard boiled eggs but different than any others you would normally see. They were a deep orange color unlike any dye you would ever see, they must be real rabbit eggs.
Come to find out she would boil the eggs in onion skins and a little vinegar to give them this unique color. We would then all sit down to dinner together that normally consisted of a big holiday ham, creamed potatoes, asparagus, deviled eggs and all sorts of salads and other side dishes. My Aunt Diz always would bring a huge cake for dessert shaped like a rabbit.
I have a picture of myself somewhere taken when I was about four years old posing with a small gray metal pail that is over flowing with rabbit eggs that I had collected. I still have that pail and it sits in my living room filled with dried flowers, it is one of the few things I have that belonged to my grandmother, most would say that pail is worthless but I wouldn’t sell it for a million bucks. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
