Because the United States has not developed teleporter technology and cannot send military forces anywhere they want instantly. And as one of the top generals pointed out, the attack in Benghazi did not last 7 hours. The attack was actually two 20-minute long attacks separated by about 6 hours.
Twenty minutes is not long enough to send in military back up. I don't think the attack in Benghazi is nearly the embarrassment and disgrace that conservatives like you want it to be. You don't care about diplomat safety as much as you care about discrediting the current administration.
Hindsight is 20/20, but the picture of what was going on when it was actually going on was much murkier. Mistakes happen, and personally I'd rather keep Democrats who failed to protect a secondary consulate building in Libya than side with Republicans who failed to the stability of the American economy.
I asked the same question in 2002 when the U.S. Consulate In Karachi, Pakistan was attacked with 10 Killed and, 51 Injured. And again in 2004 when the U.S. Embassy was bombed In Uzbekistan with 2 Killed, 9 Injured. Then again in 2004 when gunmen stormed the U.S. Consulate In Saudi Arabia with 8 Killed.
Not to mention in 2006 when armed men attacked the U.S. Embassy In Syria resulting in 1 Killed and several injured. And yet again in 2008 when 10 people were killed in bombings at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen. Nobody in Congress ever bothered to investigate any of those incidents.
No cheap political gain in doing so I suppose but perhaps if they had Benghazi never would have happened.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
