To me, pop music has no edge. Perry Como, Eddie Fisher, Connie Francis, Doris Day are pop singers, no two ways about it. There are different opinions about Mel Torme, Sinatra, Kay Starr, Mildred Bailey, Peggy Lee, early Bing Crosby before Jack Kapp turned him into a money making pop hits machine.
I personally would put Ella in the pop category despite the dooby dooby dooby. And pop singers who snap their fingers on two and four do not magically become jazz singers. They are about as authentically cool as Steve Martin and Dan Ayckroyd, the wild and crazy Czechoslovakian brothers.
The pop music audience does not really want edgy music. Remember: "It has a good beat and you can dance to it." Highest praise.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
