There aren't a lot of great free agents on the horizon. Baseball has surged in popularity in recent years. Lots of team are finding themselve flush with cash, and have been signing would-be free agents to contract extensions.
Carlos Zambrano, Ben Sheets, Chris Young (Arizona OF, not to be confused with San Diego's pitcher by the same name), and Fausto Carmona are a few guys I can think of right away who recently signed contract extensions. Outfielders Carl Crawford, Manny Ramirez, and Vladamir Guerrero are all soon-to-be free agents, although their teams may have options for 2009. Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia is the biggest pitcher hitting free agency next off season.
With regards to your topic tags, I should add that looming free agency generally doesn't carry any impact as far as fantasy baseball is concerned. Most leagues are re-draft leagues, where you draft your team anew at the beginning of each season. And most leagues allow you to use player from both the AL and and the NL.
If you're in a league that is AL- or NL-only and allows you to retain players for multiple season, then the posibility of a player switching leagues would be of some concern. But most leagues are entirely unaffected by off-season player movement. Here's a list of the free agent class of 2009: http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2002/02/2008-09-free-agents.html .
1 Although he's struggling right now, Mark Texiera will come out of it because Scott Boras is his agent and he wants to get the BIG BUCK$. Also, another one to pick up although he's not in his free agent year is Dan Uggla of the Marlins - he's in his option year this season, so look for him to finish with about 30 HR, 100+ RBI as well.

2 You know, I never even considered that you were looking for guys in their walk year because you thought they'd have a better than average year. I know that is a common assumption, but I think it's just something that people notice when it *does* happen, and ignore all the times it *doesn't* happen. I can give you many examples of each.
Andruw Jones (last year), is a glaring example of a guy busting in his walk year. He cost himself millions. And even worse, after still getting a pretty good contract (given his age and performance drop), he had the gall to come into a camp this year with his new team fat and out of shape.
Amazing! .

3 C.C. Sabathia is one I know of but if you are thinking of using him on your fantasy team watch out because he seems to be choking instead of performing well as he nears contract negotiations.

How come the President of the United State gets paid $400,000 and Manny Ramirez of the Boston Redsox...
Find a News article about someone named Manny Ramirez that is not a major league baseball player.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
