What Group of writers bridged the gap between the Romantic literature and the Realism Period of literature?

I recently took a college course titled "The Novel from 1700 to 1900" and for our final paper we were to show how Gothicism was used as a vehicle to move from Romanticism to Modernism. While Modernism is not the same as Realism, they do share many common qualities. The first three books of the course leading from Romanticism to Gothicism were Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and Hard Times by Charles Dickens.

The novels that started the height of Gothicism and gradually led to Modernism were The Monk by Matthew Lewis Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, and finally The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. While all of the novels mentioned arguably have some elements of Romanticism, Gothicism, and Modernism, upon reading them you can see how they style of each book shows a gradual movement from Romanticism to Modernism. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
