Call the State Attorney General and ask them. They have an employment division that can help you out.
It depends on the work. By law, of course they're required to give you a lunch break as well as periodic breaks, but in many white collar positions there's an unwritten expectation that you will eat at your desk and work many hours beyond what your salary (which is actually based on an hourly rate) pays. I for instance typically get paid to work from 8:30am to 5:00pm.It is expected that I will start early and work late--typically 7am to 7pm as well as being available at all hours, even on my days off and the work load is in line with at least that much "commitment" (that's what they call forced labor these days).
I am 'naturally' expected to stay even later (8pm, 10pm, whatever it takes) on occassion. And never am I expected to take any additional pay for this "commitment" of time.Is it wrong? Yes, of course it is.
But it also depends on how much they're paying you. If you're making over $70k a year, then there is some reasonable expectation that you're going to work late, skip breaks, and even cancel vacations. But then how do you define 'reasonable' and shouldn't that expectation be clearly stated in your job description or other documentation?
If you're not making rather decent money, then I would report your employer--anonymously of course. Especially if you're in some kind of service job, then breaks are essential to your health.
I do not make 70k a year I make 9.50 an hour froggy1 7 months ago .
9.50 an hour, I imagine you work on your feet all day. That's hard. And it's a genuine health issue. It's one thing if they make it worth it in other ways--like work your butt off in a starter job and move up--but if it's a dead end, low paying job then you should at least be getting periodic breaks.
In some workplaces they will force you to take a break even if you don't want to because they're worried about liability.
Lets see they dock you the lunch hour, which is fine if they let you have lunch, but if they are making you work through it you should be paid for it.
That is violating your rights, it's illegal, employees are entitles to a lunch break and two 15 minute breaks during their 8 hour shift. IF it was too busy and you had to work through them they need to pay you for that hour. If you said no and took your break anyway, they could not legally fire you.
But if you agreed to it, then there isn't anything you can do, unless they don't pay you for that hour. If it happens a lot you may want to find a new job or report them to the labor board for violating your workers rights.
I am 23 years old and work for a golf course and work 10-12 work shifts, by law should I get a lunch break.
If you work in a doctors office do they have to give you an hour of lunch is that the law.
Can companies require you to work a strait 17 hour shift.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
