Very short sessions and incorporate into many different activities It's not that different than teaching any other child except you need to keep your sessions short. Read only a few pages of a book instead of the whole book. We also picked one letter or one number and worked on that all day.

For example: We ate apples for a snack and talked about all the people we knew whose name starts with A, tried writing an A (try making the letter or number with dots and let them connect the dots). Music is good. A good song that we used is Sesame Street's "C is for Cookie" song.

We would sing it in the car, before bed, etc. A is for Apple, that's good enough for me, etc. B is for Bobby, that's good enough for me, etc.And on and on. Make a ABC/123 photo album that is relevant to the child. For example: A would have a picture of Andrew, his cousin Abbey, Andrew picking apples, etc.Q is tricky.

We used pictures of Mommy, Daddy, Gramma and Grampa each making the "Shhh" sign for quiet. The number pages would have one big picture of Andrew, 2 pictures of his dog Copper, 3 pictures of Mommy, etc.We actually had to hid this book for awhile to give us a break. Be creative: point out letters and numbers at the grocery store, on signs while riding in the car, etc. They key is to keep them interested by making it personal and keep the sessions short.

Use the steps if you have them! My children quickly learned their abc's and 123's by saying a number with each step they took going up or down a flight of steps. This enables them to kinesthetlcally remember the letters and the sequence they occur in.So if you have steps, try this.

As they learn more you can do two letters with each step. In addition to this I would point out letters and numbers wherever you are. We would also have special days... on a P day we would have a party where we ate pizza and peas on plates.

We decorated with the letter p all over the place. In this way not only does the child learn to recognize the letter but the sound it makes too. Good Luck and just remember to keep it fun.

Make it a game. An activity where you don't sit still. Like taking 1 step for the number 1.2 hops for the number 2...... And then find aminals that begin with different letters of the alphabet and allow the child to act out each aminal.

They eventually learn, but start by doing one letter a day. I have a daughter with adhd, and she is 7 now. When she was young, I sat with her every day for 30 minutes or so and did homework with her.

Every day we focused on one letter. When you reach z, start over again. They have a hard time focusing, so going for walks and pointing out things with the letter of the day is a visual thing to do, or baking something that starts with the letter of the day.

A, cut up apples and eat them while you go over words that start with a. They eventually learn. Then they grow up and argue with you every day because they are so darn smart.

They remember every thing you have ever said and use it against you. Watch out! .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
