People can certainly make a decent living working for Non-profit organizations. A non-Profit organization does not distribute surplus money to shareholders or owners instead it reinvests in the organization. Government Agencies, Trade Unions, and Charities are all non-profit groups.
On Career Builder I fount 211 Nonprofit jobs in the area code 90210 Some nice lookking ones include Marketing Executives and Account Managers. Wages produce an issue for charities, consider that getting top talent requires attractive pay . .. But that is money that can be used for the goal of the organization.
Usually when people talk about non-profit organizations they typically mean charities, foundations etc, rather than either a commercially oriented company or a government department or other publicly funded organization. For example. Oxfam, the Red Cross and the Gates Foundation are considered non-profit organizations, while Microsoft and USAID are not.(Microsoft being profit-making company, and USAID a government agency.) It is certainly possible to earn a steady and even a good income working for a non-profit org.
However salaries depend on the exact kind of job you are doing, and you would typically be making less than your counterparts in business or government. For example a software developer or project manager working for Oxfam would make a decent living, but generally not be paid as much as one with the same skill level working for Microsoft or USAID. Also, there can be a lot of competition for some non-profit jobs, as despite the lower pay,.
They are attractive to many people looking for a meaningful working life.
Yes, if you get stationed in a low "cost of living" country. A lot of American "development workers" live pretty comfortable lives receiving "American" level salary in very poor countries. (Some get to live in leisure.) A notable exception are the Peace Corps volunteers, they receive virtually nothing and live almost like locals in their assigned countries.
Some of them sacrifice two years of their lives to improve their chances of obtaining top university admissions and financial aid, so the sacrifice pays off in the long run, too. In fairness to JFK's brainchild, I do know that most Peace Corps volunteers are real life heroes of America and the world. They deserve any comfort they receive.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
