Job descrip of an ortho assistant Chair side assisting with preparing and maintaining dental instruments and instrument transfer. Delivering patient personal oral hygiene instructions. Preparation of dental materials: Cements, Impression materials.
Removing excess cement from brackets and orthodontic bands. Pouring impressions and trimming plaster models for labs and presentation. Instrument cleaning, sterilization/Disinfection, and re-circulation, operatory disinfection.
Bracket set-up. Inventory control and management. As well as front desk duties setting up appointment and pulling charts.In some offices you would be asked to perform extended duties like: taking dental x-rays and development.
Ligature removal and replacement. Pre-selection of orthodontic bands and separator placement. Tooth preperation: prophy with a slow-speed hand peice and etching and sealants.
Wire removal and placement. Taking impression and bite registrations. Fabrication orthodontic retainers, like essix and splints.
Taking intra and extra oral photographs. Among other things that vary from office to office.
