People are frightened about the economy, but they are blaming the wrong president for our predicament. Bush is the one to blame, but I knew it was only a matter of time that they would blame Obama because we have a short attention span. I think people are frightened of the health care plan because it adds to the national debt initially.

Eventually, it will save money because the health care industry is out of control, but people are looking at the immediate impact, and are frightened because it hasn't been explained very well. That's the impact of the loss of Ted Kennedy because if he had been on the health care trail, the dialogue would be very different. Also, there are a lot of people out there that are unhappy that we have a black president.

Given that, and the political climate with talk show hosts like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Coulter, and yes, Sarah Palin with her "death panel" statements whipping up the populace, and a few of our Republican representatives making racial remarks at Town Hall meetings, and you have an explosive atmosphere. The problem is no one is putting a muzzle on them, and Rupert Murdock, an Australian who owns Fox, is reaping millions of dollars from these bozos. When, in the history of our country, is it okay to spew hatred?

That's not freedom of speech; it incites violence. If you want to cite Nazism, that is the kind of rhetoric they used against the Jews of Europe before they were annihilated. All it takes is one malcontent.

I went through a presidential assassination in 1963, and I don't want another one; there will be blood in the streets this time. Why doesn't anyone realize how explosive a situation this is getting to be. I don't see any Republican stepping up and counselling their party to hold down the rhetoric like John McCain did on the campaign trail when that woman stepped up and accused Obama of being a Moslem.

McCain nipped that in the bud and I applaud him for that. Carl Rove, Cheney and others in the Republican campaigns for president used the most derisive and nasty campaign tactics that were ever conceived. They succeeded in electing Bush a second term and polarizing the country.

I have lost friends who won't speak to me because they are Republicans. Usually, after an election, we get behind our president no matter what your political affiliation, but I haven't seen that in this election. This is disturbing to me.

Now, is the time to pull together as Americans.

We have always been racists, anti semites throughout our history, unfortunately. In spite of that, there are good, patriotic americans. When the economy is bad, the crazies come out of the woodwork and the racists feel comfortable to spit forth their hatred.

They believe that during hard times, people will listen to them and their garbage. In a way they are right, but not all of us. The majority don't.

This is not surprising. He is an african-american. They feel comfortable venting their hatred toward him because of his color.

Everything he does is bad and it is because of his color. Here on askville, the same is true. He has been called the anti christ and he has been compared to adolf hitler.

Racism is based on the stupidity, the ignorance and the moronic racist. I am surprised that it is not more then 30 threats a day. What a sad country we have become.

That being said, THERE WAS ENOUGH OF AMERICANS WHO ELECT OUR FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN, so racists be damned.

Notice the article says "most threats are not credible" The reason they KNOW this is because MOST of the threats against Obama are authored by Obama or his backers. They know that most of the country does not want his policies so they have to drum up sympathy, make the opposition appear to be racist! The liberal media loves this and runs with it, without checking the sources!

It is all part of Obama politics! Obama says in his meeting with his Czars, who has some friends who will write death threats against me today! Acorn is a great source for fake death threats.

If you want to face the truth Democrats even pay people to do such things - foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/26/colorado... .

What happened to America was "self-esteem. " Back in the fifties, most people still understood that a society operated by "esteeming others better than oneself" (Philippians 2:3). Then came drug-induced "experiments" and the result was the seventies, with the high priestesses of our culture Dear Abby and Ann Landers telling everyone that without self-esteem, they'll fail.

That the eighties had the pseudo-Christian Dr. Dobson saying the same thing only made it worse. We now have a society of attention-craving people, all demanding "Look at me! " One of the quick 'n' easy ways to get attention is to threaten the popular person: everyone's paying attention to him; if I stick my nose into that, they'll pay attention to me, too!

Ya see, for the past eight years, many people were insulting President Bush. No one wants to be part of that. But now that everyone is going on about President Obama, well, it's payday.

BTW, this is exactly why Lee Harvey Oswald shot J. F. Kennedy--for attention that his psychotic brain demanded from others.

He'd tried with a military general first, but missed; second time, "lucky. " The irony about "luck" is that, eventually, the secret service will miss a beat and one of the fruitcakes could slip thru unnoticed and win that lottery. Yikes..

1 I have never seen a bolder or more unprincipled attack on a President.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
