Cohen wrote at least two versions. This question gets asked quite a bit; the song one of my favorites. Cohen weaves religious/Biblical references throughout his works.
Here he's merging his own love life with that of King David and Bathsheba. Pure, sacred love being lost by the body's physical needs. The best explanation I've found of that song is "One Haunting Ballad Has Been the Soundtrack to Many Lives Recently.
But Why?" by Bryan Appleyard, which can be found at: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/t… More at: http://www.webheights. More.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
