Spock's longsuit was that he was always able to remain unemotional, and to be able to determine the most logical action to take in any situation While others were unable to function because of fear, pain, panic, stress, deep feelings of passion, etc. Spock was always able to keep his cool, always able to assess the factors of a given situation, and to make the most logical decision given the factors at hand This ability to remain completely logical at all times also gave him the ability to anticipate the most likely action of any adversary given following factors which he most always had access to to draw conclusions from - the awareness of their most desired outcome; their culture; and the resources, including the available knowledge that they had access to, in any given circumstance This ability to think logically, to remain emotionally detached, to discern any adversary's most likely action, made him an invaluable advisor to the ships captain, and time and again showed its value in keeping the captain and crew safe, and to return them to safety when they found themselves facing danger of any kind Mr. Spock's forte was simply his ablity to remain emotionally detached in any given situation, no matter how dire or how tempting, and to infallably deduce the most logical solution to any problem he and the crew of the Enterprise were challenged with.
