Like all fighting sports through the years, combat between fighters in interesting It started before historical records and continues. Occasionally, there is some sociatal need to civilize the battles, but ususally it goes back to kill or be killed. Coming from a seven year mrtial artsist Realism and technique are the two biggest factors. Not every fight is good,nor every fighter. When I watch a fight between two very skilled MMA fighters,it blows my mind.

Watch very closely. Look at all of the skillful moves,techniques,reversals etc. Etc. This is not just blind fury.

It's full contact chess(the good fights only). Being that I've been in a few street fights and many full contact matches,you have to respect the utter strength of some of these guys. I've been hurt in fights and competitions.

I fininshed a fight against a guy from Canada in Fairfield Ct. After dislocating my left shoulder and putting it back myself(fist under arm and jump). There is alot of talent out there and the world of martial arts changed completely after the first UFC(yes I saw the first one on PPV).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
