What is some advice for interviewing for a teaching job as a high school math teacher?

You are welcome to discard this. (I was in college teaching.) 1) John W 2) Calculus is my favorite subject. My favorite class is students who have come prepared.

3) I taught at colleges about twelve years. 4) 1997 is when I first had some students undisciplined. Two students kept talking.

("What shall I do?") I set down the chalk and eraser, walked back, said motioned for them to stand up (they did), motioned for them to follow me to the door (they did) and closed the door when they were in the hall. "I will come back in four to six minutes. If either of you is not here, you will be counted absent."

And I went back in the class. -- Always worked. Other students learned from this.

(Sometimes, one in the hall would ask "Why are you doing this?" I always replied: "Because my other students want to learn. Four to six minutes." 5) I did enjoy teaching mathematics.

6) I started teaching at age 18 to individual students. I thought this was something that I could do. (My other position was applying mathematics at the Department of Defense.) 7) To be a college math teacher, you do not need certification.

Just a degree. 8) M.S., Applied Mathematics 9) University of Missouri in Columbia (I tried to apply at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, but their deadline was October 1.) 10) First, we are always short of math teachers and this may be a good investment. Second, understand the difference between public schools (overall ACT = 20) and private schools (overall ACT = 25).

Third, read about the early retirement of teachers in 1960 and how NEA and AFT have led to a large percentage of K-12 teachers whose primary interest is their salaries and who openly say "Professor, it doesn't matter whether they learn anything." After hearing this in 1978 and then hearing the Professor say "That's right - it doesn't matter", I returned to graduate school.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
