Well because you didn't specify where you are looking from and in what direction, this will only be a guess, but Rigel is a bright blue star that is visible to the naked eye. It is found in the constellation Orion (the most easily recognizable constellation) underneath what would be Orion's 3-star beltHope this is the one you are thinking of!

This is not the one. I am familiar with the orion belt and it is not close to it. Thank you for your answer though.
