Each child is certainly different. Both my boys learned when they were approximately 5 years old, but our friend's son did not learn until he was 11.

I was 6 years old I started riding at 6 with training wheels but really didn't progress until the training wheels were off. I remember the next door neighbor kid (I think 12 years old) pushed my bike and let go over and over again and I picked it up. I crashed a lot and thinking back it was a bit dangerous and maybe the neighbor kid (Daryl was his name) has a mean streak and was trying to hurt me.

Not sure. I made it through. I taught my kids to ride by padding them... helmet, knee pads, arm/wrist pads, etc and took them out into a grassy field.

Once they fall and find out they don't get hurt and overcome the fear of falling then you are very close to teaching them. Sources: Personal Experience .

All 3 of my kids......... learned at 5 yrs old. Of course, I took them outside to learn and we didn't come in until they could do it on their own. But, it didn't take long and they were so proud of themselves!.

Age 5 or 6. It mostly depends on the child involved, as all kids do not develop on a schedule. My oldest grandchild, a boy, the 1st & 2d boys were just over 6, but the 3d boy will have it down before he is 5.

He wants to do everything his big brotherts do and is eager to get at things. "Me do", are his favorite words. He tends to get quite irate if you try to help too much.

Our granddaughter, 6 months older than the youngest grandson is not so competitive or daring, she says, Boys can do that, girls can use training wheels". But she is an only child & has no sibling role models. Original research comes into play here.

Talk to your some parents with young children and keep in mind what I said about birth order or being an only child or not. Contrary to experts, the sex of the child usually does make a difference, but not always, and parental expectations.

It was all down hill from there... My son was three and a half, when he learned how to ride his bike without training wheels, as he is very strong and has a good sense of balance. One day, I took the training wheels off and I pushed his back and he stopped pedalling... down he went face first. So, I decided to hold on to the back of his shirt.

I remembered that my mother made me push off from our split rail fence. I made him do the same thing, and he did well. If you look at my avatar, you can see my oldest son, Matthew's nose is all scraped up.

He was learning how to ride his bike without training wheels... He ate more dirt, than he rode over! Luckily, my son didn't break any bones and I survived the experience without medication! Everytime, he pushed off the rail too fast.. I was right there worrying about the bike landing on his legs.

I was five years old, when my dad took the training wheels off my pink Huffy Strawberry Shortcake girls bike. I frequently fell off the bike in the two weeks, that I was training. I still remember trying to balance the bike and how heavy it felt as it landed on my legs, trapping me underneath.

We didn’t use helmets, body gear or any kind of protection. I fell pretty hard on the pavement, and I had both knees skinned up at the same time, and I remember my pant legs always getting caught in the chain. What a great feeling it was, to finally be able to ride my bike with the neighbor kids, without training wheels!

My child has just turned 3yrs 2weeks ago. We have just started learning him to ride his bike without stabilizers doing well, so for anyone who is thinking about it try it. My other child had just turned 4yrs when he started.

Instead of pushing your child when they're learning to ride, its so much easier on them and you to learn on a very small hill. After many days of anguish, my brother showed us how. It was so much easier!
