Two Springs ago, the County Agent suggested Falcon 3. We were told the 2nd spring, after planting, we would see a lovely lawn. Today, our lawn looks like a bald man with bad hair plugs!
So what ever you do, please don't recommend this to me. We have done everything we were instructed to do. Maybe the fact that we suffered a drought the last two years has helped create this pitiful situation.
I would love to have a fine lawn this summer! Any suggestions? Asked by 1majamom!

Selecting the Right Grass for Your Kentucky Lawn The "right" grass for your lawn may not be the one you like best, but the one easiest to grow. Generally, Kentucky bluegrass is best adapted to Central and Eastern Kentucky and bermudagrass and zoysiagrass to Western Kentucky. Tall fescue adapts well throughout the state.
Red fescue or perennial ryegrass also can be used in some situations. All of these grasses, however, differ in their performance and qualities. Since cultivar testings provide the names of improved cultivars almost annually, the latest cultivar recommendations can be obtained at the following Web site:Many recurring turf problems can be avoided if you select the best grass species and cultivar.
The following descriptions may help you make the right selection:The leaf texture of turf species differconsiderably, but persistence and pest resistance are much more important in choosing the right grass. Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis)More than two dozen cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass are sold in Kentucky. The "common" types of Kentucky bluegrass, such as the cultivar `Kenblue,' are very persistent when maintained at high mowing heights, low nitrogen fertility, and minimum traffic.
However, many improved cultivars have better summer quality, improved heat tolerance, and disease resistance. Best CultivarsAmerica, Award, Eclipse, Glade, Jefferson, Midnight, NuGlade, Odyssey, Quantum Leap, Rugby II, Total Eclipse, Unique. AdaptationKentucky bluegrass grows best on well-drained soils in light shade to full sunlight.
Performance in Western Kentucky is very poor. Major QualitiesFine texture, good sod resiliency, good spreading habit. Major ProblemsVery poor traffic tolerance.
Not adapted to medium or heavy shade. Severe grub susceptibility. Diseases such as Helminthosporium cause thinning in May and June.
Thatch buildup can be severe if excessive nitrogen is applied. Irrigation is required when maintained with high nitrogen fertilization. Becomes semi-dormant (brown) when not irrigated during the summer.
Slow germination (10-21 days). Very poor seedling vigor causing slow establishment. Poor tolerance to mowing heights less than1½ inches.

Do some research on allaboutlawns to determine which grass is best for you. Before you can get down to the nitty-gritty of comparing bags of seed, you have to narrow the field by choosing the type of grass you want to plant in general. The main Grass Types aren't the end of the story.
Each type has a multitude of sub-types, known as cultivars, each with slightly different characteristics. Once you know whether you're in the market for Kentucky Bluegrass, Bermuda grass, etc. , look to see if the grass seed label names the particular cultivars. The names of the cultivars will give you more information if you want to know exactly what you're getting, but more than anything, listed cultivar names are an indication of higher quality bags of grass seed.

1majamom! Said: 2 Yes, it is...Bluegrass IS pretty, but it is not as hardy as one would think. We have had three consecutive years of drought.
Bluegrass does not tolerate that. Often, It is susceptible to fungus, etc. Pretty, yes, practical for a total yard cover? In a word, No.
