Shareaza worked well even on a 400 MHz computer. Shareaza is located at shareaza.com and in addition to being a P2P program (spyware and adware free) also serves well as a bittorrent client. The default settings start pretty conservative, so it shouldn't bog the machine down very much at all.

Plus is has a wizard that allows you to specify machine configuration, internet connection, etc to further improve the handling. Standard warnings on P2P, use good virus protection, be careful of what it tries to share out by default and play nice with other people's property... Hope that helps! .
