Follow this steps they helped me Defrosting A Refrigerator:Many of the newer refrigerators are frost free or defrost by themselves. If you have a frost free refrigerator, you do not have to defrost it. B ut it is still necessary to wash it on a weekly basis.
When the frost ins ide the freezer wall is one quarter of an inch thick, the freezer should be defrosted. STEPS FOR DEFROSTING:Turn the refrigerator dial to defrost or off. Take out ice cube trays and frozen foods.
Put the frozen foods in a cardboard box. Cover them with newspaper. To speed up the defrosting process, put a large pan of hot water in t he freezer.Do not scrape or punch the ice with a sharp tool; let it melt by itse lf.
Put a pan under the freezing section to catch water. Empty the pan w hen it gets full. If you must turn the refrigerator off, be sure to leave the door open.
C losing the door will create mildew and a musty odor. Refrigerator! No blow torch. You could use a hair dryer to speed up the following process though.
Of course, don't stand in water while you're doing this. If you mean an older, dated freezer w/o auto defrost then this how. Unplug freezer and leave door ajar until ice has melted.
If shelving is solid, place a pan under each shelf to catch melt water. Wipe all melt water up, plug in unit. If you happen to have a refrigerator / freezer and the defrost system does not work, you can replace the "frost tubes" yourself by ordering on line or hire a repair person.
If you have a refrigerator / freezer that has an ice maker and you need to defrost your freezer....unplug unit and wait for ice to melt. Then after ice melt, wait another day before plugging in. This is due to possible freezing of water in ice maker supply line.
If you plug unit in too soon, ice maker will not work. PS: it is assumed you know you will have too store food items in freezer elsewhere during the defrosting. They will keep fine in the frig until your freezer is ready again.

You're right! DOn't let your friend use the blowtorch! It’s kind of a pain in the butt... but not difficult.
I always choose to do this on a cold day, just to make things easier. Unload all the things from the fridge and freezer. Put as much as you can in your cooler, and put it outside (why I do it on a cold day!).
Then unplug or turn off the fridge. Line the freezer and the bottom of the fridge with bath towels and leave the door open. If you want to encourage it along with a hair dryer, you can.
Take out all the shelves and compartments and so forth, and while the freezer unit melts, scrub the daylights out of the fridge part and all the drawers and shelves and trays and such. Once the freezer part is clear thawed out, wash it down, too. It’s a good time to throw out the old ice and scrub the ice trays as well. Once everything’s re-assembled, turn it back on, and put your fridge food back in.
I’d generally wait a little while to put the freezer food back in, if it’s cold where you have it, to give it time to come back up to temp. Then--laundry for all those towels! Sources: *sigh* Personal experience!
NancyE's Recommendations Real Simple: Cleaning Amazon List Price: $21.95 Used from: $13.95 Average Customer Rating: 3.0 out of 5 (based on 5 reviews) I usually use ammonia and water, or bleach and water to wash down the insides. And I take this opportunity to change the odor-collecting box of baking soda in the fridge.
The best way is to leave it open, preferably outside. If you can't move it outside, then surround the front with shallow pans and/or towels to catch the water as it melts. Trying to chip away at the ice can damage the interior and/or break the coolant lines.
Using a blowtorch might sound like fun, but will leave your fridge smelling like burned plastic, and could very easily overheat the coolant lines. Placing cups of hot water in the fridge can speed the process up a little. Be sure to clean the coolant lines of dust while you are at it.
I hope this helps.
Fans I just leave the door open with an electric fan blowing into the box. The ice melts in no time. Do not use sharp objects to chop the ice (leaned that one the hard way) and do NOT use a blowtorch.
Those coils have pressurized gas in them and it can damage the mechanism or even explode if you get it too hot.
