What is the biggest mistake you can make in SEO? over backlinking, no keyword research?

I would say as a beginner, trying to learn everything at once, taking advice from the wrong people (i.e. Those people who are selling you software or courses that promise to teach you but are really a scam). Result, total paralysis, you stop writing because you are trying to learn all this stuff!

My top tip, use the hubpages forums and read some of the many hubs by respected hubbers like Sunforged, Marisa Wright, thisisoli, Ryan Kett and so many more - and keep on writing!

Thinking that SEO is more important than your content.

Very less people do keyword researching and this one is BIG MISTAKE. After that people do not want to get the backlinks from relevant websites. They just do it blindly.

I have a hubpage on SEO writing that made a Google page one rank. The biggest mistake is keyword stuffing. More than 2.5% keyword density will get you marked down by Google.

Keep in mind that if Google is doing something Bing and Yahoo will be doing it in a year or two. After that is not enough organic links. Links are very important to rank.

Then comes "staleness"- something on your page has to update regularly. It can be a blog feed or news feed. Google doesn't like pages that aren't updated.

After that comes content. Poorly written content won't keep readers attention and Google notes time spent on the page in it's algorithm, LSI (latent semantic indexing) also suffers if the writing is substandard. My research shows that top pros are giving less and less 'weight' to keyword research. It's not 'old hat' but it's not of primary importance either.

Remember, Google spends a fortune updating it's algorithm every week so things can change rapidly.

Outsourcing too much of your seo work and ending up with bad links from black-listed sites (link farms etc...), is a very hard mistake to rectify!

No keyword research and underestimating the strength of the competition.

I think no keywords research is the main mistake. We know that we write in hubpages to get an online income. Most of hubpages members think like that.So it is very important to research the keywords, and choose which is the main keyword that is potential and will generate our adsense revenue.

I'm throwing a question in here. How is over back linking a mistake in SEO? Other than say, taking part in some paid back-linking scheme that is giving bad links.

Churning out hubs without understanding the basics of SEO plus keywords. Emulate other peoples work and failing to factor in what works for you. Learning while writing and at the same time backlinking is good.

Have a detailed objective and what you want to do to achieve that objective always work in any endeavor.

To me there are several areas but the two big ones are Keyword Spamming - this is where you have two many keywords on a page, it should be around 2-3% and no more. The other big one is not having relevant keywords on a page ie you site is about fishing but the keywords are todo with cows for example. Google looks at this and says well the site is about fishing but his pages are about cows, so google de-indexes you.

Hope this has helped, others can give other examples.

I would say it would have to be Duplicate content, and no keyword research.

Getting back links from untrusted sites i. E if you have your site link placed on some untrusted site then there is a chance that search Engines Might think that your site has some relation with them search engines . And more over back linking plays an Important role in Page rank which ultimately has its effect on pagerank.

Writing on oversaturated keywords, No backlinking at all, wasting money on paid services, considering SEO a rocket science....

Yeah! Duplicate content is a big issue but the most important thing is what's your domain name? If it is unrelated from your site then you will see big problem in SEO on this site.

One more important thing is that your site URL must be shorter which is known as User Friendly URL's and actually search engines probably like shorter URL's.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
