What is the differences between simple past and present perfect tense.?

The simple past relates an event in the past. "Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD," "Christ died on the cross," "The factory collapsed." "I spent all my money and was left with nothing." "I lit the fire but it went out" "I wrote a book but could not get it published." "I came home, ate my supper and went to bed." "He was born in 1599 and died in 1658." The present perfect describes a present state resulting from a past action.

"The volcano has erupted and is pouring out molten lava." "The factory has collapsed and many workers are buried in the debris." "I have now spent all my money and shall have to beg for something to eat." "I have lit the fire and soon the oven will be hot enough for me to bake bread."
