The heart of the Gold Coast is just over an hour's drive from Brisbane, depending on traffic Brisbane is about 80 kms north of the Surfers Paradise, which is the heart of the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is a "long" city which starts around 40 km south of Brisbane's CDB and extends to the NSW border at Coolangatta/Tweed Heads.
