Macaroni and cheese! I always wanted to stir it when my mom or dad made it :).
I used to assist my mom in the kitchen all the time, but the first thing I actually cooked by myself was grilled cheese. It was my favorite. I cooked it for my sisters and brothers and I liked to do it.My mom taught me how.
When I cooked by myself for the first time, I was very comfortable with the stove. I love to cook now and make almost everything from scratch.
My first meal I learned to cook was bacon and eggs for my father. He had cancer and was not doing well, and I was home from school that day because I had another ear infection or bronchitis. He was hungry and craving bacon and eggs but couldn't get out of bed long enough to make it himself.
I had never cooked before. From his bed he gave me step by step instructions on how to make eggs over easy and bacon that was just the right amount of crispy. He also taught me how to make pancakes from scratch and how to know the exact time to flip them so that they were perfect - but that was another day and another story.
Oh...I remember making baked "fried" chicken with my mom. The recipe was so simple I still use it today.
Pasta. With onions, garlic, tomatoes, capsicum, carrots, beef mince, cheese, herbs and spices, and other delicious ingredients... My auntie walked me through it, and I'm very grateful. Pasta is a very easy dish and something I prepare a lot, although I find a lot of people resort to making it very plain and bland.
I love making pasta because with a few little tricks and extra things thrown in it's easy to whip up a tasty brew!
I don't remember actually learning to cook. We just stood talking to Mum in the Kitchen and she would ask us to do little things from when we were tiny. Gradually we did bigger things.
I probably cooked my first meal at around nine years old, when I could reach the cooker safely. However, what it was is lost in the mists of time. But I could cook a roast Sunday dinner when I was 11, roast meat, roast potatoes, 2 vegetables and gravy. My mother was a great cook and later became a chef.
We are all fair cooks too.
I believe it was scrambled eggs, because they are simplest to make. I did follow mom in a lot of her preparations, but scrambled eggs is the first dish I made by myself, and I messed up the easiest recipe!
My Mum taught me how to make a spagetti bolonaise when I was about 12, and then taught me how to make other meals and desserts as I got older.
I was able to put a full meal, meat, an array of veggies, beans, cornbread, on the table by the time I was 10. My Grandmother was in the hospital with appendicitis ( sp). Whatever, I knew, I learned at her knee.
But, there was no 'formal' instruction of, first sear the meat, peel the potatoes, make the gravy, brown the bread. There were no recipies. Truly, I learned by emulating what she did.
Actually the first dish I learned how to make was spagetti and meat sauce. Started out using jars of sauce then learned how to make it from scratch aside from the pasta by the age of 16. Believe it or not I was pretty much a microwave queen at the age of 18 however when my friends tasted my spagetti they started buying everything I needed for a huge spagetti dinner every week at their place that I cooked for about 20 people.
Now at the age of 33 I am a cooking fool and I am very good at it. I have a few recipes on my profile here with more to come one of the best ones I have posted so far is slow cooked chicken and turnips. Here is the link if you are interested hubpages.com/hub/Crockpot-Chicken-and-turnu.
The first meal I remember replicating was my father's spaghetti, which by the way is Delicioso! He doesn't use measurements, so he had to tell me what to put in it and I had to season to taste. Needless to say I made it too salty at first, thus is when I learned the art of watering down spaghetti sauce.
These days I just buy the pre-seasoned sauce jars, it saves me a lot of trouble over seasoning. Don't tell him I told you that.
Home-made soup. My grandma taught me to make soup when I was about 10 years old :).
My first meal was prawn fry...i learned it from you tube!
That was a long time ago, but I think it was scrambled eggs. To my shame I have to say that my children often cook better than I do. I never was the housewifely type.
I rather paint a house or cut the grass. My Mom tried her best to teach me, but it required patience for me to stand there and listen; and I have never been one to have the patience to sit/stand still.
Rice Salad because all I had to do was boil the rice and chop up all the uncooked vegies and it was so tasty. This became a favourite addition to many family meals.
Peanut Butter, honey and Banana sandwich on toasted bread. I think I learned it from Mr. Rogers. I loved it when I was little.
Scrambled eggs with cheese, my Dad taught me.
I don’t know if you can call it a meal but first thing I remember learning to cook was pancakes :) now I am pancake master.
I had been visiting with my grandparents for about a week and dad called to tell me he was coming after me. I was probably 5 or 6 and I wanted to cook him breakfast. Granny helped me to make him scrambled eggs, (home raised) biscuits, gravy, hash browns and grits.
Just give me an egg sandwich and I'm ok, but this is Dad. He deserves a feast.
I burned toast in order to make breakfast. I remember I snuck and did it and the smell of course filled the whole house and I knew I was gonna get it.
Filipino dish called Sinigang. It's a soup with lots of stuff in it. My mom had to leave early.
She left the instructions on the table. Magically, it turned out pretty good.
The first meal I ever cooked for my family was Christmas lunch. I was 17 and my mum had died not long before. I hadn't cooked a meal for my family before and was shocked at how hard it was to cook such an important meal.
Needless to say I burned some things that day but luckily our next door neighbour came to my rescue and replaced all the ruined food. That was 38 years age and I have been cooking Christmas lunch ever since.
I always helped my mom make holiday cookies since I was 6. The first meal I learned to make was eggs. I still can't get sunny side right to this day!Lol.
It was scrambled eggs and my mom taught me ;-).
Not sure wgat my first meal was , remember making a dessert Apple pudding at about age 11, Mum taught me how to make a roast when young . I enjoy cooking especially on the open fire.
The first "meal" I learned to cook, I think, was waffles with special syrup. The waffles were easy enough -- just throw em in the toaster. The syrup was regular pancake syrup I'd warm up in a pot on the stove and melt some butter in it.
I thought that was pretty clever when I was a little kid. Then microwaves came along and the whole exercise got much easier!
I can't really remember for sure but I think it might have been lasagne.
The first meal I cooked was peanut butter pancakes... I was really hungry and no one was home... I was watching Wayne's World and just grabbed the pancake box and followed the instructions... I remembered they were as soft as the pancakes in IHOP... In the end I would add crunchy peanut butter in between them with strawberry syrup and a cold glass of milk... They never came out the same ever again but was a delicious moment I will never forget...
First thing I learned how to make was a grilled cheese sandwich. I was in preschool, and we made it with a clothes iron. I still remember it like it was yesterday.
I didn't forget that I was made Rice first time..
The first meal I learned to cook was actually a type of biscuit, yellow in colour that was made out of custard powder, butter and a lot of other ingredients. I would press them down onto the tray with a fork and cook them like that. My mother also liked to put a bit of cherry in the top of them for special occassions.
Sadly, I did not get to cook them many more times. I seem to recall making the dough a number of times and then eating it raw until eventually my mother caught me in the act and then I was banned from cooking.
I started cooking tinolang isda (fish soap), it is common soup in the Philippines and is loved by most filipinos. My cousin shared some tips before I made my own...=).
Cereal would be the first if that counts as a meal. My parents taught me. In terms of a true meal, my mom taught me how to make mac n cheese.
Ramen noodles! I lived off those one summer when my mom was too lazy to cook. Easy and delicious, with a minimal learning curve!
I cooked macaroni for my family when I was a kid & every one at my place loved it.
The first thing I knew how to cook was ramen noodles lol, although I don't know if that counts.
Well. The first meal I tried to cook was potatoe salada and it ended up in the trash...
I learnt to cook at school in Home Economics class. The meal that I learnt to cook at home for when Mum worked late was Bangers and Mash. (Fried sausages and mashed potato).
My dad taught me how to make scrambled eggs.
Spaghetti. So easy to make and sooooo good.
It is difficult to say which meal was the first. One thing is for sure, I probably learned how to cook from one of three people in my family. My aunt, grandmother and mother all taught me how to cook and I had been doing it before I was 9.It is really a difficult thing to remember especially when one has been cooking since he/she can remember.
The top first meal, and I'm not sure about this either, would probably be hot oatmeal with fruit and honey.
I learn to make soup and omelet. When I made soup first time it was too bad but omelet is quite good.
I did pasta. I saw my mother do it, and one day I got into the kitchen and did it myself. The kitchen was a mess!
First, I didn't boil the water. I just threw the pasta to a cooking pan, and lighted the fire. When I got it that I'm doing something wrong, I just poured some water in, and waited for 20 minuted.
I have create mash-pasta. It was a gooey, sticky blend of noodles, and it was horrible. I was very proud. My mother didn't let me near the kitchen for a year later...
I learned how to make toasted (some say "grilled") cheese sandwiches by watching my mom make them. I'm not able to cook/back much today, but I still make the best toasted cheese sandwiches.
I think that it was cheese on toast with sugar and I believe that I did it myself although I had previously watched someone else do it.
One of my friend has told me the method of cooking boiling rice his name is Fazal.
My mom is a very good cook. She can cook food very quickly and I used to see that. My first meal which I cooked was salmon fish curry and I was very excited that day :-).
I cooked KFC chicken. I was in grade 11 and was just 17. I learned it from a cooking channel. My family liked it very much!
It was so delicious!
I learned to cook my first meal on my own with some inspiration from growing up in a family where family meals were an important. I do not recall what my first meal was but it was probably a peanut butter and jelly sandwich considering that is smiple and most young children love them.
Melding machine make cake & drop into bowls and eat it. Enjoy it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
