Just be yourself What swept me off my feet was my partner's total willingness to be open and authentic with me. He didn't try to impress me with what he owned, how much he made or how important he was; he showed up and paid attention. The gift of really listening to another person is a gift that none of us get on a regular basis.
We all want to be the center of attention, and really paying attention to your partner is so important. Learning about them and then using that learning to build the relationship is key. Most people don't realize that relationships take real work....it's not just walking through your time together; it's really making that time count.
Just my two cents...
Be honest. I think the biggest thing would be to be honest with the other person. If your not being true, later on down the road, the other person is going to find out who you really are, and may not like it.
The thing that really sweeps me off of my feet? For me, is a good sense of humor. They need to be able to laugh at themselves, and me, for that matter.
Life is too short to be so serious. There's a couple mistakes that could happen on a date. For me, one of them would to use a bunch of cheesey lines.
They are just that. They are cheesey, sound untrue, and probably are. Also, if it is going too fast.
What's the hurry. I want to get to know who you are, before it gets all hanky-panky. As for misconceptions about the other sex, that's a hard one to answer.
There are a lot of misunderstandings, but I also think that alot of it has to do with the individual person. One guy could be a real pig, while the next one be a perfect gentleman. I guess you just have to get out there and find the right one for you.

Directness What I think is the most important thing is to say what you want, say what you need. Women often times hint around or flirt around or are coy about something that they want and need hoping the guy will get the hints and do whatever the thing is. I suggest saying whatever it is directly and for the guy asking directly.
A coworker of mine, after dating her boyfriend for 9 years would buy bridal magazines and open them to the engagement ring ads and leave them out with notes and marks around the rings she liked. It became this thing that she hinted at forever. Finally, at the 10 year mark he asked and within 6 months they got married.
They were sepperated after less than 6 months are are divorced now. I used to ask her when she talked to me about it, "Shouldn't you be focusing on why he hasn't asked you before and less on hinting towards him buying you a ring...?" "...How about asking him directly if he sees your relationship going to that point or not...?" I know we would like to think that he will somehow by osmosis know what our needs are. In reality, that isn't even possible.
Maybe after years of knowing you he might remember patterns and figure it out better but particularly in the dating stages and the beginning of the relationship, clearly stating your needs is something that gets lost in the shuffle because we are always hoping the other person just knows. I think that is something that is misunderstood in relationships.
I'll have to answer from the male perspective here: Being honest always works with me. I'm a pretty straight forward guy, so ambiguity always bothered me in dating. Now I appreciate that the dating process involves a certain degree of ambiguity since the players are starting to get to know each other better, but there is no reason to add to it by playing games and being dishonest about your likes and dislikes. My best dates were always with women who were pretty up front up their likes, wishes and dislikes.
I always had better dates and was much more inclined to ask for a second date if I didn't have to go home after the date and try to figure out what she really meant when she said.... Maybe its just a personality quirk on my part, but that was what I liked the most. I thought I could answer this question intelligently, but I'm recently out of a relationship of 6 1/2 years. And... the dating scene scares the hell out of me. It think we try too hard or have far too many expectations that NO ONE could live up to.
I suppose it’s true that no one person can be all things to us. We try to sum up all our needs in one date. A date should be fun, not an audition for either person.
I’m no expert here. A friend recently loaned me a book called "He’s Just Not That Into You," written by Greg Behrendt & Liz Tuccillo. I’ve only read a few pages and so far a couple of things really stand out in my mind.
Ladies, the book says men do not like or respond well to aggressive woman, regardless of what they say or imply. Men know how to use the phone and when they make excuses about their insanely busy day, remember that an excuse is a polite form of rejection. If a guy is into you, you would be the bright spot in his horribly busy day.
Men don’t forget how much they like you, according to Greg, so put down the phone. Just because you like to lead, it doesn’t mean he wants to dance. If he’s NOT calling, honey you aren’t on his mind.
One last thing I ’ll share for now that I read is: If he creates expectations for you, then doesn’t follow through on little things, he will do the same for big things. Be aware of this and realize that he’s okay with disappointing you. Some traditions are born of nature and last through time for a reason.
I don’t know about you guys and gals, but this makes sense to me and we are obviously forgetting some basis rules (if you want to call them that). I know this is 2007 - we’re engaged in forward thinking, realism and caution tossed to the wind. That’s all well and good, but far too many lovely, talented, giving women are single and miserable.
They can tell be they prefer it that way, but upon further examination, They are blowing smoke. They’d love to be out on the town with someone wonderful, who is genuinely into them. But none of them want the games, lies and time wasted issue.
Honesty, trust and sincerity are NEVER a fad. Okay guys, tell me you don’t want sex without committment. Tell me the super model profile isn’t your first pick.
What happens when you’re not 20 or even 30 anymore and your hot bod isn’t quite as hot anymore. Kids, the job, ex-wives. It gets complicated but that’s the REAL world.Meanwhile.... My former partner thought the grass was greener, and the new she was in his life 10 days after I moved out.
I’m told women grieve, men replace. Many of us know how devastating that is. After two short months, the relationship ended and I think he’s rethinking his haste where I’m concerned.
But too little, too late. Like I said, I’m no authority on love. I wanted what I think we all want deep down - someone to love and understand us, who’s there for us when all the dust settles.
I’m not ashamed to say that I’m 51 and if the right someone crosses my path, who is going in the same direction, happiness is still possible. Relationships are difficult on the best of days. I think more of us need to check our intentions and "harm none" should be a hardfast policy.
Just some thoughts. Oh, and yes, women fart!.
