Here in the American South, a traditional Christmas pudding is made with sweet potatoes, custard, butter, sorghum molasses, and spices.
You really cannot beat the pudding and the trifle, but here in Canada we have a Christmas cake seasoned with rum, also Shortbread cookies, and Butter tarts. An extra three to five pounds in weight gain easily.
In the Philippines, we love eating crema de fruta. It's a spongecake topped with gelatin and candied fruits. Filipinos also love eating rice cakes called bibingka and puto bumbong.
A Christmas season is never complete without them :).
We have this dessert bars called Food for the Gods. Its sorta looks like brownies but it's not made of chocolate. It has dried up fruit and rhum or brandy. It's absolutely delicious, but it's very hard to find.
In India, they eat loads of plum cake though I am not a fan. I like the traditional Christmas cake prepared in red wine. The preparation time is 2 days.
I also like the fruit delight pudding made on Christmas.
