First I would highly suggest not getting a Mac. I'm an engineering student and have seen compatibility problems with the software we use. It's best to stick with Windows because all the software will be available.
I don't know the specs of the other two but a general suggestion for a computer would be one with an i5 processor (preferably 3rd gen), 500+ GB HDD, around 6 GB RAM (4 is ok but it never hurts to have more), and maybe dedicated graphics (depends on if you like to game and/or will be using demanding modeling software). That's just a general suggestion. Brands and other features are up to you.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
