According to Wikipedia - based on various authorities and how the penguins are classified there are anywhere from 17 - 20 different species living in the Southern Hemisphere. The largest Penguin known as the Emperor is approximately 3 feet 7 inches (1.1m) and weighs about 75 lbs (35 kg). The smallest is the Little Blue Penguin who averages 16" (40 cm) tall and weights about 1.1 lb (2 kg).
Penguins are native to the Southern Hemisphere, and major populations live in Australia, New Zea land & Antarctica. The larger sized penguins tend to live in the colder climates while the smaller species live in more temperate (warmer) climates.
