The Post WWI prosperity. Folks were doing okay; even Germany was doing okay, and that was with its debt payments to France for the war it started. Wilson was right about that being a bad idea, but one must consider history, there.(France had started the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, lost it, and was forced to pay for it, so France was merely doing to Germany in 1918 what Germany had done to it in 1871.) Back to your question, what happened over the twenties was a lot of German money going to France AND the new-fangled stock market taking other bags of money.
Being new, the fraudsters were out in force, so that eventually (October 29, 1929), the truth of the emptiness of the stock market hit everyone all at once. When our stock market collapsed, others' did too because the money people thought was there, suddenly wasn't. The governments had two options: in the U.S. , Hoover did nothing, so we had very little real money left (runs on banks), so few people had actual money to buy actual things like food; in Germany, they printed more money, so everyone had "money" but it was worthless paper (much like Zimbabwe right now.
) Lots of money or no money, in both cases, the underlying problem was no real value to all those things the money had bought. It was as if you had found a "pearl of great price" and sold all you had to buy it, and when you got home, the clam was empty..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
