This sounds kinda silly but he was so grumpy and grouchy and cussed so much! As a kid back in to 70s it was always shocking (and funny) to hear him cuss! He was always so exasperated.
Yet he seemed wise and really sharp. He was so funny but I don't think I've done a good job of putting my finger on the WHY of it.
I would say his command and knowledge of the english language (if you heard his soliloquies, poems or his rants) and his dry humor. As well add his cussing, carrying on and just making an ass out of himself made the audience always want more from him. Find his "7 words you can't say on television" or "The ppy Dippy Weatherman" on You TUBE and this will describe him better yet.In his 70's he still had his dry wit that could make you smile a lot R.I.P. George and as Bob Hope would say "Thanks for the memories.
INsight, intelligence, and wisdom, all of which came with age.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
