What medications should I avoid before cosmetic surgery?

Do not take any medications that contain aspirin for seven days before your cosmetic surgery or seven days after your surgery. Aspirin increases bleeding during and after surgery. Check the labels of all the medications you take; if you are uncertain whether they contain aspirin, ask your doctor or a pharmacist.

Do not take any vitamin E or herbal remedies including orthomolecular vitamin therapy and even green tea for a week before or after surgery. These substances have unknown effects and may interfere with your anesthesia or ability to heal. You may take vitamin C and the B vitamins.

The following drugs must be stopped three days prior to surgery: Advil, Aleve, Clinoril, Dolobid, Feldene, Ibuprofen, Meclomen, Medipren, Motrin, Nalfon, Naprosyn, Nuprin, Oraflex, Orudis, Ponstel, Rufen, Sulindac, Toradol, Voltaren, and other "nonsteroidal" anti-inflammatory drugs. Also Bextra, Celebrex, Vioxx, and any other Cox-2 inhibitors.
