It was a wanna-be cop violating the rules of the neighborhood watch he was a captain of. He carried a gun, which is not allowed in neighborhood watch, and he got out, followed, and confronted Martin, another thing neighborhood watch is not supposed to do. To my mind, he is guilty of manslaughter, but considering the witness presented, it is too much a case of he said/she said to get a conviction.
It was not on video tape, witnesses at the scene gave conflicting testimony, etc.
I think this case proves the racial divide in this country. Black folks stick together at all costs, even if the evidence or lack there of suggests otherwise. Alot of stuff the black community has said in response to this is very hateful and extreme.
Alot of discussion from the black community has involved white privelage, the term cracker, and spiteful angry remarks. It seems white legal analysts vary on their opinions and determinations of the case. But all black analysts say Zimmerman is guilty.
There is alot of anger in the black community. They have even suggested rioting and killing whites in response to a potential not guilty verdict. Some have even suggested whites do not understand Rachel Jeantel and that is why whites are hard on her.
But, what is true is that Rachel Jeantel was caught in lies, was disrespectful to the court and both Zimmerman and Trayvons parents by the way she acted, and actually proved to be a very bad wittness for the prosecution. That's why people are hard on her. It has nothing to do with her upbringing, no matter how uneducated she is.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
