First step - Get an internship with the best facility in your area. Intern during your senior year and do everything you can to see and experience what the field is truly like. Just because you love animals doesn't mean you'll love being a vet.
Explore other careers that involve animals. Upon graduation, utilize that network of people you've built to evaluate your options (whether it be college or training programs). If you've proven to be a successful hard worker, you'll find that you end up on people's short lists very quickly.
As I understand it, vet school is harder to get into than med school because there are fewer of them around. That being said, they only take the cream of the crop. I believe you need to be in the top 10% of your college graduating class, or something like that.So that means, you can do what many students do their first year of college, which is screw up.
No one plans to screw up that first year but being away from home (assuming you live on campus) and meeting new people is a prime opportunity for fun. Sometimes classwork takes a back seat. If you really tank your gpa in the first year, it doesn't really recover well in the years to come, even if you get all A's and B's So like the other poster said - you should find a vet that has an opening for a vet tech or find some way of working in a vet's office, even if it means volunteering your time.
Another thing that vet schools like are people who have experience in the field - a sort of work your way up thing. And by doing this, you will get a good idea of what it really means to work constantly with people and their pets. You will see the good and the bad about it all.
You may even learn some procedures along the way. To sum up: 1) get some experience in the field 2) don't screw up the first year 3) plan on taking alot of sciences for a pre-vet curriculum Good luck.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
