It is essential that nebulizer treatments for infants and small children be done with a mask over the mouth and nose. Using a mouthpiece with closed lips is also acceptable for older children and adults. Blow-by technique (holding the tube in front of the mouth and nose) does not allow for proper delivery of the nebulized medication.
