From a business perspective (which seems to be the main driver of these things) they should make the minimal changes needed to qualify it for PG-13. From an artistic perspective this is sub-optimal if you feel the original (i.e. Book version) is better for having these scenes.
However, by getting the author to participate in the modification process they can probably minimize any such damage. Keep in mind that tchcock (in the shower scene in Psycho for example) was able to elicit exactly the kind of horror he wanted, without any graphic gore such as lesser film-makers resort to these days.
If it was my choice, I'd rewrite the movie script, with the author's consent, to make it a Pg-13 rating, as not to alienate the teenage fanbase. When the dvd comes out later though, I'd include deleted and alternate scenes that are closer to the book with a R rating for those scenes (and have a disclaimer).
My opinion is that the script should not be rewritten as it will break the whole process of Bella having to undergo all the problems to become a vampire and this is where I think some lessons are to be learned. The current ratings should be maintained as it does not make sense to change it, considering the present audience that it already has. Let us remember that either now or later, this movie will be available on the internet, dvd's and more so it is better maybe to educate our teens.
That my take.
I have read all of the Twilight books and am a big fan of the series, but I don't think even I would want to see the birth portrayed super-realistically. The way I envision it happening is probably that she'll be heard in the next room while two people (perhaps Carlisle and Edward or another member of the Cullen family) discuss her situation, the fact that she has broken bones, the excessive blood loss, etc. Another possibility is that they show just the very beginning of the labor and then cut to after the birth where they are all fearing for Bella's life but she is covered up enough to not get too graphic. I would say this movie definitely will be a PG-13.
They can't afford to lose money by alienating the pre-teens and young teenagers that are the series' bread and butter. More than the birth scene, though, I have to wonder how they're going to handle the sex scenes. The book obviously makes a big deal of their sexual encounters because Edward has to try not to kill Bella when his lust gets the better of him.
I think that that is going to be more blush-inducing (especially for kids/teens going to see the movie with their parents) than anything else.
The whole twilight saga should be made for teens (PG-13). You cannot make two movies and get fans all wrapped up in it, only to release the follow up under a different rating. Many fans will be upset.
The books are available to all and so should the movies be.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
