Good question. 1. Its useful to go beyond 'cultural determinism ' to understand what kind of people we are and how we got to be this way but without falling into the trap of assuming that people have no agency, no considered choice in how they act, form opinions, and select the social values that they consciously connect to 'economic security' and 'social success'.
'pragmatism' and 'agency' are alternative sociological concepts: and tied with these is the concept of 'hegemonic masculinity' 2. The problem with using only the 'gender socialisation' concept is that it avoids the less deterministic explanation that your mother has worked out how she thinks that power continues to operate in society...even if she is wrong about this assumption - this doesn't mean that she's not making - from her point of view - a sensible decison about what's best for you. ... in turn, this doesn't mean you have to agree with her, nor that you need to grow your hair long again.
From your mother's point of ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
