I am currently seeking an position in one of these fields and was curious as to the hiring procedures. What goes on your first couple of weeks in these types of positions.Do they train you? How do they train you?
What kind of stuff does the training go over? Do they give you projects and give you a set time or do they emerse you in a group? Asked by animaniac 17 months ago Similar questions: takes place entry level web software developer position Business > Jobs.

Picture yourself as the owner of a company who needs to hire a web developer. Among the prospective candidates:A couple of dozen of folks who have been doing web development for over a decade and might have even had a hand in defining the protocols that are in mainstream use today. - Upside: They will produce world class work.
Downside: They want to be paid engineering salaries plus benefits and will drive the cost of your companies group medical insurance rate up because they skew the age demographic the insurance companies use to calculate rates. A couple of dozen new grads - Upside: These guys grew up with technology and can design web pages in there sleep, and since they are just starting out are willing to work for cheap and will do a good job because they need to make a name for themselves. Downside: Not much experience with the corporate world and they have little company loyalty as their entire goal at this point is to improve their position in life.
A couple of dozen H1B workers for India or China - Upside: These guys have been given a top notch technical education and are willing to work for as little as the new grads because of the possibility of future American citizenship. Downside: These guys fill slots that could otherwise be occupied by American workers. A consulting firm - Upside: No long term expense associated with hiring full time staff.
Downside: They are pretty darned pricey. And then there is the guy who has little or no experience and is hoping the company that hires him will provide on the job training. Who would you choose?

3 Ok... so here's the way you get into the software development/web design business. Go to college and get a degree in software engineering or computer science. If you want to do the web design thing a minor in graphic design would probably be a plus.In your senior year take advantage of the intern programs.
They don't pay jack, but you do get some experience to put on your resume plus if you do a good job you have an in at the company that hired you as an intern. I wish you well in your journey.

4 If you're going for either job, you will have to know several computer languages to get your foot in the door. You should learn them at college and have written some programs before any company is going to hire you.

5 Your boss says get me coffee, and that is what you do. If he wants you to go to krispy creme and get doughnuts for the office, that is what you do.
