So active, the novocaine wore off I was somewhere between 5 and 10. The dentist, who was my first and the sole cause for my dislike of dentists, had been seeing me since I was 3 or so. This time around, I had a cavity.
He gave me the novocaine, and then left me alone in the room. Been a kid without supervision, I naturally started getting restless. Eventually, I got out of the chair and started looking through all of the various things - poking through drawers, looking at the instruments, etc. After about 15 or 20 minutes, I heard him coming and got back in the chair.
He asked me if I was numb, and I told him I wasn't. He didn't really believe me, and began. I kept telling him it hurt, but he kept working.
Eventually after I started crying, he stopped and started to think that maybe I was telling the truth. Eventually, he got around to asking me what I had been doing... So, he shot me up again and had a dental assistant stay in the room with me.It's too bad my mom doesn't go online, or she could tell you about getting a root canal without any anesthetic at all.
Ugh! I can thank my orthodontist for that one. I got braces in 5th grade.
I was supposed to wear them for 1 1/2 years. I had to fight like hell to get them off "early" during my senior year in high school. Besides the extended pleasure of metal in my mouth, he decided to "experiment" with new procedures with my mouth.
One of those experiments was to remove teeth to make room and place a spring from my lower left jaw to my upper right jaw. Yeah, the full headgear wasn't enough. The real problem came when he pulled the wrong teeth..Yup!2 teeth gone for naught.
Naturally, he talked my parents into pulling one more to try to fix his screw up. 3 teeth gone and Oh yes, dry socket. Pain that no 16 year old should endure, big gaps in my mouth, and a spring (we're talking 3x bigger than those springs in ball point pens that you click open and closed at the end) across the front of my mouth.
I still had to wear the headgear. I still think he was a bastard!.
It was the summer of 1990. I had a toothache and couldn't make the time to go to the dentist because I was also having a yard sale (2 days - BIG deal). The tooth calmed down and I pretty much forgot about it (not really).
Well, by the time I went to the dentist - it was abscessed and the doc sent me to the endodontist. I had had a root canal before, so even though it is one of the most unpleasant experiences in the world, I wasn't too, too worried. It would all be over soon, I figured.
Well, the endo guy couldn't get the tooth numb. I lost count of the shots he gave me and I STILL had feeling. So, he said 'well, I will just have to put the novocaine right onto the roots.' Fine with me, I was thinking, that would definitely take care of the pain.
OMG! I must have shot 15 feet in the air with the pain that little drop caused. I also cried.
The doctor had to pretty much hold me down in the chair and promised me that the worst was over. It was @#$%^ painful!. I have never cried before or since from a dental experience.
I have also had a cavity filled WITHOUT novocaine after this incident because I figured I would just go without, thank you very much. Now, I can't blame the endodontist. I realize I could have prevented the whole episode myself.
And, after that last filling, which was about 10 years ago, I have been cavity-free. I learned my lesson! My brother-in-law is now an endodontist and he keeps telling me that he can't wait to do a root canal on me, so I can see the difference.

My worst dental experience was when I was in the Navy and a chain-smoking commander examined my teeth. It was difficult to keep from getting sick. This was long before the time of rubber gloves being used for protection, so you can just imagine how disgusting that was.
I still carry the mental scars from that visit. Sources: Life .
The dentist from hell... A kid shouldn't have to go through this. I had a dentist who wouldn't use any painkiller to drill my teeth. The whole time I'd be squirming in the chair and yelling "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh."
Parents didn't listen to kids back then and I thought the problem was me. One day his hand slip while drilling, slashing the inside of my lower lip. I was horrified when I saw all the blood.
Then he tells my parents he couldn't figure out why I was so quiet and terrified whenever I'd come in for dental work. He told them to take me to a shrink. I also had a mouthful of primary teeth with no permanent teeth to push them out.So what does this sadist do?
He drilled down my two permanent front teeth which look too small for my mouth to this day. I've been thinking of getting porcelain veneers for my two front teeth. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
