In an ideal world his successor would turn out to be a considerate, reasonable and forward thinking leader of his people for the 21st century as opposed to another bloodthirsty warmongering fascist dictator who oppresses his own people, but I doubt it.

Since he is kim jong il's son, most probably he will just continue all of the policies his dad had made before. Besides, its only just about the leader, its about the system.
