First, the U.S. used the atomic bombs because at that time it was a new weapon and they were not considered to be WMDs. In addition, many Allied leaders felt they was no difference between having to send 300-500 aircraft to drop thousands of conventional firebombs vs one aircraft to drop an atomic bomb in a single raid. During WWII, hitting civilian and military targets from the air was already established in practice years before the atomic bombs were deployed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The reason why the UN doesn't want North Korea and Iran to have nuclear bombs because they are rogue states that was willing to use them for no reason whatsoever. Did you see the U.S. nowadays threaten other countries that we are going to nuke them? No.
Just because what the U.S. did in the past does not make it OK for rogue states to have them because we don't want others to repeat the mistake. For Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be chosen for scientific experiments is irrelevant. Yes, both cities were chosen because they make good targets for a nuclear bomb due to the size and shape and because the rivers there does make a good target for U.S. firebombings but most importantly they were strategic attacks to destroy the enemy war machine, just like all the conventional bombing raids before in WWII.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki housed weapons manufacturing centers, military bases, and communication centers for the war effort. Because Japan engaged in "cottage industry" at that time, most of the military parts were made in civilian residential homes rather than an isolated easily-identified industrial district, making them legitimate targets. Therefore, Japan had deliberately located factories and military bases right in the middle of and/or near the densely-populated areas, knowing that many of their civilians will be killed where the bombs will drop.
It's like how terrorists used civilians as human shields and they were inadvertently killed. Who's the blame for this? The terrorists.
Why? Because the Geneva Convention said that using civilians as human shields constitutes a war crime. Plus, the atomic bombs were mainly dropped because we wanted to avoid a land invasion of mainland Japan codenamed "Operation Downfall" that could claimed hundreds of thousand Americans and millions of Japanese lives.
The U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff estimated that invading mainland Japan would cost the lives of 456,000 men. In addition, millions of Japanese would also die because everyone civilian in Japan was armed by the Japanese government in preparing to fight the U.S. invading forces. Giving that 100,000 Japanese civilians died in the Battle of Okinawa by that same manner, there is no doubt that invading mainland Japan would make the Eastern Front look like a walk in the park.
Also, the USAAF dropped leaflets in Hiroshima and Nagasaki warning civilians that their cities would be totally destroyed and urged them to evacuate immediately. Here is the text of the leaflets that were dropped by U.S. aircraft over those cities before the bombings: "Read this carefully as it may save your life or the life of a relative or friend. In the next few days, some or all of the cities named on the reverse side will be destroyed by American bombs.
These cities contain military installations and workshops or factories which produce military goods. We are determined to destroy all of the tools of the military clique which they are using to prolong this useless war. But, unfortunately, bombs have no eyes.
So, in accordance with America's humanitarian policies, the American Air Force, which does not wish to injure innocent people, now gives you warning to evacuate the cities named and save your lives. America is not fighting the Japanese people but is fighting the military clique which has enslaved the Japanese people. The peace which America will bring will free the people from the oppression of the military clique and mean the emergence of a new and better Japan.
You can restore peace by demanding new and good leaders who will end the war. We cannot promise that only these cities will be among those attacked but some or all of them will be, so heed this warning and evacuate these cities immediately." "Before the Hiroshima bomb was dropped, the city was given the standard psychological warfare treatment prior to an ordinary incendiary attack. Leaflets were dropped on Hiroshima, indicating, along several other cities, that they were to be fire bombed within a few days and to evacuate the city.
The leaflets are on display in the Peace Museum in Hiroshima and were dropped on the city several days prior to the atomic bombing. Unfortunately, most Japanese, even if they had read the leaflet, ignored the warning. Japanese citizens were instructed to turn such leaflets into their local police station."
The two links of these statements were in the "source" section below.
Well first of all, Iran used American planes to crash into our "Twin towers". Japan bombed Pearl Harbor FIRST and that what lead us to use the two bombs youre thinking of. America has never bombed North Korea (Yet) but were the ones getting threatened to get bombed, and were only bombing Afghanistan and Iran to prevent them from doing any further damage to us.
Maybe you should just look up your question instead of looking like a total uneducated retard. :).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
