What's the best pro-grade amateur video camera with great audio?

Maybe I need a professional camera but maybe not. Ideally I'd like to be able to submit my video to current.Tv potentially. My main use will be putting videos online or CD.

Most importantly I've been using a point and shoot for video and the sound is always horrible.Is it always necessary to get an external mic for good audio even with a dedicated video camera? I'm trying to figure out if audio should be a primary criterion when picking a camera, or if I should assume I'm getting an external so focus more on the video features I need.Thanks.
