Although many store bought products claim to do more than just cover odors, that it generally exactly what they do. However, hope should not be lost just because Spring Valley and Hawaiian Breeze (these are made up, but very likely names of products like Febreze) won't remove the smells. Used as a common method of absorbing odors in the fridge, baking soda can also be used to remove odors from a room.
Baking soda can be used in both its dry powder form and as a spray when mixed with warm water. As well, if the source of the odor is moisture related then baking soda will be extra effective as it is rather absorbent and will pull moisture from both the air and whatever it is applied to. Another handy household item that works similarly to baking soda is charcoal.
Charcoal should be placed in a container that has holes or openings for ventilation and left in the room with the poor odors. It can take a few days for the odors to disappear, however once they do, the charcoal can be removed and discarded.
Wintergreen oil is a good deodorant. You can buy it at a Health Food Store. Just put a few drops on cotton balls and put them in plants, decorative pieces, etc., around the house.
Air purifier, febreeze, baking soda and charcoal attracts and traps smells. Believe me I used all of these in combination to clear my room when we accidentally put out too many moth balls and the smell was atrocious. This really works and now it smells great!
.Despite all the hype, Febreze works very well. There are several different scents to choose from...just find one that suits you. If you are sensitive to smells, use it conservatively at first until you figure out the amount that works for you.
Open a bag of charcoal in the room and leave it for a couple of days.
Baking Soda won't make your house smell better but it sure does takes away the smell of almost everything I use it in my room, the garage and or in trash cans. Place a bowl of Baking soda in a corner of your room and see.. I mean smell the difference:).
Borax mixed with some essential oils... eucalyptus, peppermint, lavendar, orange, lemon, sandalwood, clary sage, etc. Put a few drops into a container w/20 Mule team borax and "mix". Then sprinkle it into your carpeting and furniture. Let it stand for 24-48 hrs and then vacuum thoroughly.
You can also mix some w/a bit of water and make a paste for "cleaning" or dissolve it all into some purified water and spritz it wherever you need. Borax absorbs the "funk" and the essential oils will leave a lingering pleasant scent behind. Make sure you put some of the dry mixture in the bottoms of your trash bins and in your vacuum cleaner bag!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
