What's the difference between newer versions of iTunes and older versions?

Over the years, iTunes has seen a lot of improvements. Initially used for organizing digital music, the features in iTunes have developed in accordance with the various new features in iPods, iPhones and iPads today. Initially, with the launch of the iPod, iTunes was solely a digital music library and player.

You could purchase songs from the iTunes store and also create playlists and sync them to your iPod. With the introduction of the iPod Photo, iTunes began to allow the user to sync photos to their device. This was followed by the iPod video.

ITunes began to provide video viewing features, and the store also started selling movies and TV shows. In later years, iTunes had more features added to it, such as the ability to subscribe to podcasts, and the Genius function which allows the user to pick one song from their library, and the “Genius Function would use certain characteristics of the selected song to create a playlist with similar songs.

The latest version of iTunes comes packaged with a new feature, called Ping. This is intended to bring social music networking to users of iTunes, though reception to this feature has been warm. Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes http://www.apple.com/itunes.
