What's the difference between the Volvo S40, S60 and S80?

The 2010 Volvo S40 got a 7.4 rating out of 10 from Edmunds.com. They said that The 2010 Volvo S40 it's stylish and comfortable. But it isn't as sporty as comporable European luxury models and more expensive than VWJetta GLI.

The features that were rating highly were the front seat comfort, numerous good safety features, very stylish and available in four wheel drive. The negatives are poor handling compared to other sport sedans and luxury pricing for not a very luxurious model of sedan. The Volvo S60 is more sporty and has more of a sports car feel.

The exterior is more sporty in appearance and the interior has a sports seat with seat cushion. Leather textile upholstry in the inerior is also available. The strut brace under the bonnet gives a stiffer feel and more responsive steering around turns.

The Volvo S80 3.2L engine costs $39,200 and is rated at 21 miles per gallon. The 3.0L T6 costs $42,950 and is rated at 19 miles per gallon. The V8 4.4L costs $50,950 and is rated at 18 miles per gallon.

There are many possible differences between the Volvo S40, Volvo S60 and the Volvo S80, but the best way to summarize them would be that the S40 is meant as a compact sport sedan, the S60 is an entry level luxury sedan and the S80 is meant to be a full on luxury sedan. As a result, there are overall size differences and differences in the engines available on the car. The S40 comes with a turbocharged inline 5-cylinder engine.

The S60 comes with a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. The S80 comes with a 3.2L 6-cylinder, a 3.0L Turbo or a 4.4L V8. Some other differences – the S40 is only available in front-wheel drive while the S60 and S80 both have all-wheel drive options as well.
