What's your favorite Grateful Dead song and why?

The song Truckin' by the Grateful Dead is the song I like the most. Although I am far from what could be considered a deadhead, I find myself either humming the melody or singing the words to Truckin' now and again. Bluesy, folksy and even a bit pop, I still seek out and listen to this song just to remember easier times."Busted, down on Bourbon Street.... Set up like a bowling pin.

Mine is "China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider" because it is my wife's fave and she introduced me to the Dead in a deeper way than "Truckin'" ever did. Okay it is two songs, but should always be played together imho. I like this explanation for Slate!""Terrapin Station": The turtle decals dancing across the bumper of your Volvo 740 wagon—she's still got some pep!

€”attest to your love of the divisive "Terrapin. " For many Dead fans, the "Terrapin" cycle represents an overreach, a seven-part suite complete with a Homeric invocation ("Let my inspiration flow …"), a mysterious love triangle, and liberal use of a rain stick. Dead lyricist Robert Hunter claims he wrote the words and Jerry Garcia the music on the same lightning-lit night … but with neither knowing what the other was up to.

"Yeah, right," say most. "Right on!" say you. Yearbook quote: "The sullen wings of fortune beat like rain.

You're back in Terrapin for good or ill again. For good or ill again.

My favorite Grateful Dead song has always been Terrapin Station. Released on the Warner Brothers album of the same name in 1977, it takes up the entire second side of the record (when we had records). The producer they used brought a variety of interesting studio techniques that were a departure from earlier albums.

The song live, however took on a completely different quality. Debut at the Swing Auditorium in February 1977, it quickly became a crowd favorite for its storytelling quality and thundering chorus. Usually played in the second set just before the “Drums” section, the song often veered off into uncharted territory that really is where the Grateful Dead were at their best.

The Other One - great improvising AND it rocks.

If I have to choose one song, it's "Friend of the Devil," mainly because I first heard it in college (it's one of the all-time great campfire songs), years before I first saw the Dead live. vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vi... ...and yeah, I know this is Garcia and Grisman and not the Grateful Dead, but the sound quality is a lot better than in the only Dead clip I could find.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
