Storm of Steel by Ernst Junger. Fantastic book regarding the First World War in general, and the philosophy of many veterans of the war specifically. Great read.
There are two that come to mind right away. Angela's Ashes and The Color of Water; a black man's tribute to his white mother..Loved both and learned a lot.

The Last of the Untouchables by Oscar Fraley and Paul RobskyIt's Paul Robsky's account of his years working under Eliot Ness during Prohibition. It's a fun read with a lot of danger and action scenes.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
