Reincarnation was NEVER a part of Christian -- or Jewish -- theology You find it explicitly stated in the New Testament, in Hebrews 9:27-28 -- Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. That is the most explicit statement I am aware of, but the indications are all the way through the Bible. You cannot have both resurrection and reincarnation -- they are opposed to each other.
Resurrection is the biblical doctrine and always has been.
It never accepted reincarnation as a belief The teachings of Christ say that anyone who has accepted him as their saviour will have everlasting life, meaning that when they die from this world they will go to heaven. Not back to earth as a reincarnated being.

Christianity is a bit hazy about the nature of the afterlife, compared to some other religions. However, if you look at the New Testament, it seems that when you die you stay dead until the End of the World. Then you are returned to life to be judged.
Traditionally, in Medieval church art, Christ holds the Bible in his hand or, sometimes, a pair of scales, where he weights the souls of both the living and the dead and decides who is to enjoy eternal bliss and who is to burn everlastingly. (Some art historians think that the traditonal image of Christ doing this is based on the statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.) The New Testament shares this with an earlier Greek text, that of Plato, whose Myth of Er lies at the end of Plato’s Republic, his discussion of an ideal society. In this story, a man called Er returns from the dead to describe the how the dead are judged after death.
Reincarnation is not mentioned at all. Sources: Plato 'The Republic' (Penguin Classics) .
Christians & Reincarnation Although it is not clear when Christians rejected the idea of reincarnation, there is solid evidence that during its first centuries, early Church Fathers did indeed share a belief of metempsychosis or the transference of souls. Today, reincarnation is described as literally “to be made flesh again”. Its doctrine is that some part of the living being survives death to be reborn into a new body.
The theory behind reincarnation was that in order for a person to achieve salvation or the perfect state of goodness before death it would take more than one life time. Then later traditional Christians adopted the belief that salvation was achieved as a result of the sacrifice that Jesus made by giving his life for us.
